Visiting the circus almost has a Victorian quality to it, though it dates back to Ancient Rome (the first was the Circus Maximus). It conjures images of caged beasts, Chinese jugglers, young acrobats and, of course, the renowned freak show. Whereas the general idea is still there, the circus we know today is quite different. It still features feats of extraordinary flexibility, wondrous and daring dives from nauseatingly high platforms, precise and impossible balance on tightropes and slender bridges. But gone are the caged animals and the ‘freaks’. The modern circus is a production of the politically correct, morals and ethics centric society we live in. Not that this is a bad thing because the circus still offers a tremendously jaw-dropping day out that will leave you wanting more.

If heights make you squeamish, maybe the theatre is closer to your interests. With anything from The Phantom of the Opera to Avenue Q, there is bound to be something to take your fancy. There are a lot of theatres and a lot of productions to choose from and more are added to the list every year!
