It seems like a gentle sport, drifting over the waves in whatever direction the wind takes you, feeling the sun on your shoulders, dolphins breaking the surface to dramatically spin and dive. You’re wrong. Windsurfing is as competitive, dangerous and skilled as many of the other water orientated sports. You need boards, harnesses, masts, sails, wet suits. You need to think about your balance, the wind, how rough the water is, where the nearest solid cliff face surrounded by sharp, pointy rocks is. All in all, you need to make sure you know what you’re doing before you venture into the sea to go windsurfing. Pick a gentle day to start practising, won’t you?
