Skateboarding might seem like a sport entirely reserved for ripped jeans wearing teenagers that loiter around parks, but it still has a cool factor attached to it that makes it a popular, skilled and competitive sport. It’s also one of the few sports that also provides a method of transport. Skateboarding novice or tentative rookie, you probably know most of the majorly recognised movies, like the ‘ollie’, the ‘kickflip’ and the ‘handstand’. There are loads of other freestyle moves to master, too, but in order to start practising – or continue – you need to get kitted out with some decent protective gear first. If you’re a newcomer to the sport, the skateboard is the most important piece of equipment. It can be entirely personal to you, as well. Make your own little additions to add character; graffiti, drawings, stickers! Buy some neon green trucks, wheels and bearings. You could even match your clothing. Please remember though, that just because you're a master of computer game skateboarding, that doesn't mean it will translate into real life. Don't go out there thinking you can figure it out by yourself.
