There is no experience quite like exploring the depths of the ocean (or the nearest rock pool if you’re not quite ready to dive into the deep). See coral in every colour, vibrant fish, terrifying crustaceans, teeny, tiny water bugs. Either way, you need to first of all make sure you know exactly what you’re doing – and if you don’t, find someone who does. Then you need to kit yourself out with everything you need. Underwater life isn’t going to float around waiting for you to come and have a look, so get the wet suits, snorkels, fins and flippers in the post and you’re already halfway there. If you’re really keen, there are a few other bits and bobs that might come in handy, anything from dive computers and lights to dive bags and carbines. Though it might seem like an expensive hobby, once you have everything you need, you could go every weekend, no hassle, no charge.
