When you think of bowls, you probably think of retired old men and women wiling away their afternoons rolling bowls across grass. Either that or stuffy nobles from the Victorian era drinking weak tea and discussing the weather. Ok, so that’s what we thought at first, too, but bowls makes for a surprisingly fun and competitive sport. It’s perfect for hot, summer days spent out on the garden and is relatively inexpensive to get kitted out. You only need bowls, bags to keep them in, shoes and the right clothes. Then you just need to find a decent lawn or find somewhere local that provides the right setting. Just don’t get too competitive. We don’t want to hear about walking canes at dawn.
