Whether or not you have an interest in history, believe it or not, it’s rumoured that bowling was first invented in Ancient Egypt! They even laid out the design for the modern-day bowling alley with lanes and bowling balls. It’s hard to believe bowling could be such an ancient sport, but it’s surprising how old a lot of them are. Now, thankfully, we don’t have to play bowling with stone balls and sandy allies. Instead we have bowling balls made of something possibly even heavier to drop on your foot, or to ungainly lob behind you by mistake when your fingers slip out of the holes. It’s alright, it happens to the best of us in the beginning, but you know what they say – ‘practise makes perfect’. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, you could try and construct an alley in your back garden, but we have a feeling it won’t last as long as the Egyptian version. Either way, there are a few things you’re going to need before you embark on your journey to the local bowling championship. If you want to be professional about it, consider getting your very own bowling ball. You can call it whatever you like, honestly – we won’t judge you! Next you need pins, the right kind of shoes (even if they do look like they’ve been stolen from a helpless clown) and finally, the shirt, the item that defines you.
