Life Expectancy 12 – 15 years History The Pug is thought to be of Oriental origin and is one of the oldest breeds. They are said to have genetic links with the Pekingese. Pugs were imperial lapdogs for the expirers for many centuries. They were later introduced to Tibet, and became beloved pets of Buddhist monks. During the 1860’s, British soldiers in China took both Pug and Pekingese breeds back to England. Black Pugs were imported from China and included in dog shows for the first time in England in 1886. Pugs were included in many works by artists like William Hogarth, who was an owner of pugs and used them several times in his creations. Today, the Pug is mainly used as a lovable companion and family pet. They are now recognised by all major worldwide dogs clubs.
