General Description: Neat little breed with a short, smooth coat Height: 25 - 30 cm Weight: 4 - 5 kg Colour: Black, Red blue and chocolate with tan markings on the face and chest Toy group Temperament The Miniature Pinscher or the "King Of the Toys" is a very lively, brave and playful breed. This little dog is extremely affectionate and just loves human companionship. The Miniature Pinscher is an excellent watchdog despite its size and will nip and bark at any intruders. They are often reserved towards strangers and are not recommended for small children as rough play may result in injury or an aggressive reaction. Miniature Pinschers are extremely quick learners and are relatively easy to train. However, they will need plenty of socialisation as a puppy to help curb any aggressiveness towards other dogs and family pets. The Miniature Pinscher adapts well to most situations and apartment style life is ideal. Beware, this little dog tends to chew small objects and may choke on them. Always keep outside doors secure as the “Min Pin” will take off given the chance. Exercise The Miniature Pinscher is lively but does not need extensive exercise. They require a regular walk to keep them fit and healthy. Lack of exercise can result in boredom and destructive behaviour. Grooming The Miniature Pinscher has a smooth, short coat and does not require extensive grooming sessions. Occasional brushing with a firm bristle brush is sufficient. Health The Miniature Pinscher is generally a healthy breed. However, some can be prone to eye and joint problems. Whilst giving birth Miniature Pinscher bitches need to be under supervision of a qualified vet as some may experience difficulties. Life Expectancy 12 – 15 years History The Miniature Pinscher originated in Germany. It is thought that they have genetic links with the German Pinscher, Italian Greyhound and many terrier breeds. The word "Pinscher" means "terrier" in German. Despite its name, the breed is not related to the Doberman Pinscher. The Miniature Pinscher was originally developed as a ratter and worked on German farms ridding the area of vermin. Today this charming breed is used as a loving companion and family pet. The Miniature Pinscher is recognised by all major worldwide dog clubs.
