This even tempered little dog is highly intelligent and can learn tricks quickly. They are very sweet natured and loyal and siimply love human company. The Maltese Terrier is a good watchdog and will warn their owner to any unusual noises or the arrival of strangers. They get along well with other dogs and household animals if well socialised as a puppy. The Maltese Terrier is very much suited to homes with small children. They adapt well to any situation and apartment style life is ideal. However, they love to explore the outdoors so a garden is preferred. Exercise The Maltese Terrier is a playful little dog and although they do not require a lot of exercise they will benefit from a daily walk and play sessions. Only let the Maltese Terrier run off the lead in a safe and secure location. Grooming The Maltese Terrier will require daily brushing with a firm bristle brush. Bathe or dry shampoo regularly, making sure that the animal is dry and warm afterwards. The eyes need cleaning on a daily basis as they are inclined to weep which stains the face. Health The Maltese Terrier is generally a healthy breed. However, some can be prone to eye problems, including cataracts and retinal atrophy also damage due to their large size. Life Expectancy 12 – 15 years History The Maltese Terrier is an ancient dog that was developed in Italy hundreds of years ago. This breed was particularly popular with women, who often carried them around and even slept in the same bed. This gentle dog is featured in many famous paintings alongside glamorous women of the time. Today, the Maltese Terrier is used as a companion and family pet.
