Temperament
The Greyhound is sweet, docile and loving. Greyhounds have a definite natural prey instinct and will chase fleeing animals. They are extremely fast runners and will kill animals, including cats and rabbits etc. The Greyhound is never aggressive towards other dogs and is good with children. These dogs are easily trained but owners must be careful not to break the Greyhounds good spirit by being too overbearing or harsh whilst training.

Exercise
The Greyhound requires regular vigorous exercise. A twice daily walk/run for around 40 – 50 minutes is sufficient. This breed needs regular opportunity to run off the lead and also needs routine.

Grooming
A regular groom with a firm bristle brush is recommended for the Greyhound. Only bathe when necessary.

Health
The Greyhound  is generally of very good health but some can be prone to skin problems due to their thin skin. Greyhounds are one of the only breeds which do not suffer from hip dysplasia.

Life Expectancy
10 – 12 years

History
The Greyhound is a very ancient breed and probably originated in the Middle East. This breed is the fastest dog in the world and can reach speeds of over 40mph. They have been used for hunting both wild boar and deer and were sort after by hunters because they could catch and pull down the prey without stopping. The Greyhound is primarily used today for dog racing. Unfortunately a retired racing dog is often destroyed.
