This high spirited breed can be overwhelmingly affectionate at times and just loves to be by their owner’s side. The Gordon Setter has few natural guarding instincts and tends to be reserved with strangers. They will get along with other animals, including other dogs. However, they may become jealous of other pets, but are generally good natured and not aggressive. The Gordon Setter is a very pleasant companion and is excellent with children. They need lots of exercise or they may become hyperactive and destructive. . Exercise Gordon Setters need lots of vigorous exercise such as running free in a secure location twice daily, if possible. Grooming Gordon Setters require a daily groom with a firm brush. Health The Gordon Setter is generally of very good health but some can be prone to bloat, eye problems and hip dysplasia. Life Expectancy 10 – 12 years History The Gordon Setter originated in Scotland during the 1600's and was later made popular by Duke of Gordon in the late 1800's. The breed is thought to have Setter, Collie and possibly Bloodhound links. The Gordon Setter has always achieved success as a show dog, but is also known for its qualities in tracking, pointing, and hunting.
