Life Expectancy 10 – 12 years History The French Bulldog originated in England and was developed as a miniature version of the English Bulldog. Around 1864, these little dogs were imported into France and some were bred with French Terriers. French breeders admired the imports and decided to change the new dogs name from Bulldog to French Bulldog. As the breed grew in popularity, French aristocracy sought French Bulldogs as a statement of their heroic nature. When French bulldogs were eventually brought back to England for exhibition, English breeders were extremely angered about the name French Bulldog and argued that since the Bulldog was originally an English Breed it should retain its original name.
