Colour: Solid yellow, fawn, brindle or red - white markings are sometimes present

Temperament
The Dogue De Bordeaux is a very loyal, brave and reliable dog. They are exceptional guard dogs and can adapt well to urban living. They must be trained with a firm consistent hand from an early age, preferably by an experienced owner. This dog can become a massive problem if not correctly trained. The Dogue De Bordeaux can be docile and well balanced if treated properly. They are very fond of children they thrive on the companionship and affection of their owners. The Dogue De Bordeaux is naturally protective; they can be very possessive of home, family and vehicle etc. They may be aggressive towards other dogs if not very well socialised as a puppy. The Dogue De Bordeaux tends to drool and snore loudly.

Exercise
The Dogue De Bordeaux will require regular exercise. A daily walk or run for around 40 – 50 minutes is sufficient.  

Grooming
A regular groom with a firm brush is recommended. The Dogue De Bordeaux is a relatively low maintenance breed.

Health
The Dogue De Bordeaux is can be prone to eye problems and hip dysplasia. This breed can also be prone to bloat.

10 – 12 years

History
The Dogue de Bordeaux, also known as the French Mastiff, originated in France. The breed has had many uses over their long history including: a war dog, a guardian and as a dog gladiator where they were pitted against bulls, bears and other dogs. The Dogue de Bordeaux is well established in France and is ever gaining popularity within other countries. Today, the breed is used as a family companion and guarding dog.
