They are an intelligent and friendly breed and just love to run or work. English Cocker Spaniels are energetic and playful, they are relatively easy to train and will perform with unlimited enthusiasm. The English Cocker Spaniel is a great watchdog that will fit in well to urban living if exercised properly. Exercise English Cocker Spaniels have boundless stamina and require regular physical exercise. A twice daily walk for around 30 – 40 minutes is sufficient. Grooming Medium maintenance is required. Weekly brushing is sufficient. Health English Cocker Spaniels are prone to ear infections and some skin problems such as seborrhoea. This breed is generally of good health but can experience some inherited eye diseases in later life. Life Expectancy 12 – 14 years History English Cocker Spaniels first originated in Spain. They were once divided into six breeds; the Clumber Spaniel, the Sussex Spaniel, the Welsh Springer Spaniel, the English Springer Spaniel, the Irish Water Spaniel, and finally the Cocker Spaniel. These breed types derive from a spaniel-type dog imported into the UK centuries ago from Spain. The English Cocker Spaniel is named for its ability to flush out woodcocks from the undergrowth during hunts. The breed was recognised in the early 1890’s by the UK Kennel Club.
