Temperament
The Borzoi is a gentle, reserved and dignified dog. They can sometimes be nervous around children but extremely affectionate towards their owners. The Borzoi is a very clean dog and has often been referred to as cat like. They are very good with other dogs but should be watched around small fleeing animals. If you want a constant companion and you can offer lots of love and exercise this is the breed for you.

Exercise
The Borzoi requires regular vigorous exercise. A twice daily walk/run for around 40 – 50 minutes is sufficient. This breed needs regular opportunity to run off the lead and stretch its legs.

Grooming
A regular groom with a firm bristle brush is recommended for the Borzoi. Only bathe when necessary.

Health
The Borzoi is generally of very good health but some can be prone to bloat and eye problems.

Life Expectancy
10 – 12 years

History
The Borzoi was once called the Russian wolf hound and was developed by crossing long haired sheep dogs and gaze hounds. Russian aristocracy often used Borzois in pairs to chase wolves. British aristocracy soon followed suit. The name comes from the Russian word Borzoi meaning ‘swift’. This breed is recognised by most major worldwide dog clubs.
