The American Bulldog can become stressed and uncomfortable during extreme weather. Life Expectancy 12 - 16 years History The exact origins of the American Bulldog is quite uncertain. It is thought that the breed is descended from ancient mastiffs, brought to Europe by nomads during the reign of Caesar. Early Bulldogs were used in the wagering sport of bull bating. When this sport was outlawed in the late 1800’s some Bulldogs emigrated with their owners from England to America. The English Bulldog was bred down in size and their temperament was softened, but the American Bulldog retained the size and strength of the original Bulldogs.
