Used Yamaha 9000 Recording Custom Estimated Early 1980's In
Finish: Chrome
In the world of flagship Japanese made drum kits, they don't come much better than this. This is an early 1980's manufactured YD-9000 kit in ''Chrome'' finish. Sizes are 22'' x 14'', 12'' x 8'', 13'' x 9'' & 16'' x 16''. This kit was manufactured at the time when Yamaha's years of R&D had come into fruition and they had just launched their flagship drum set, which was to set a standard in modern drum manufacturing.
Featuring laminated birch shells and shell hardware that was made in their world famous Japanese motorcycle factory, this kit is in fantastic shape after nearly 30 years of use. Everything on these shells are original and intact - internal dampers, screws, nuts, bolts, tom holder, rubber feet etc - THERE ARE NO MODIFICATIONS OR REPLACEMENT PARTS! Even the bass drum display head is the original (I think).
The metalwork is outstanding for the age, thanks once again, to the quality of their Japanese motorcycle factory manufacturing process. This stuff was made long before they moved over to Taiwan for cheaper build costs.
The shells have a few blemishes here and there, but absolutely NOTHING that distracts from the appearance of the kit or sticks out like a sore thumb when you get up close. In fact, the shells are perfectly round (created by Yamaha's Air-Seal system) with precision bearing edges, making the drums very easy to tune, which is one of the reasons why they were to become the choice of the world's session-elite players who would soon be replacing their American made drums for the Japanese usurpers.
Possibly the nicest feature of this kit, is the finish - ''Chrome''. Drummers we have seen pictured with 9000's are the likes of Andy Newmark, Horacee Arnold, Steve Houghton, Dave Weckl and Yogi Horton. There are no doubt more, but the Gadd phenomenon made sure 9000's were dominant on the UK drum market.
The bottom heads on this kit are all PinStripe. The bass drum front head has been displayed on the kit for historical purposes, The bass drum batter side is fitted with a Evans Hydraulic Cad/Cam. The 13'' ,14''& 16'' toms all have Pinstripe's as top heads. I believe the kit to have been used in a 13'' ,14''& 16'',22'' setup.
All Birch Shell
Birch shells produce a lower fundamental tone than maple. Their crisp sound quality with short attack decay makes them optimal for recording situations. The Air Seal System shells feature select birch wood cut in plies, positioned with staggered diagonal seams, and sealed together with evenly distributed air pressure. This process ensures that every drum shell is in round and of uniform thickness while providing superior tone quality and durability.
Hi-Tension Lugs
Precision-machined lug nuts provide noise-free control, due to their springless casing design. Manufactured as genuine one-piece units, our high-tension lugs have established one of the principal trends in modern design.
Bass Drum Spurs
A sturdy hexagonal design and fixed angle position allow our spurs to withstand bass drum kicks. Height adjustment and the releasing and retracting of the pointed spur are made easily with a drum key. This rod clamp system allows attachment of the drum to the tom holder without the need of a hole in the drum shell for the rod to pass through.
Ball Clamp Tom Holder
This round ball clamp has long been a fundamental part of Yamaha System Drums. Made of super-hard resin, the ball is held firmly in place with a steel plate and large wing bolt. While providing ease of operation, this system also delivers total freedom in setting and superior stability.
The triple tom holder accommodates two toms as well as a cymbal holder to provide a wide variety of set up possibilities.
